Hare Moonwood Class (Year 3)

Miss Smith  |  Teaching assistant: Mrs Waters

About Hare Moonwood

Our Year 3 children are taught in Hare Moonwood Class by Miss Smith and our teaching assistant is Mrs Waters.

Moonwood was a talking hare who lived in the sixth century, during the Age of Conquest. He lived under the Great Waterfall in the west of Narnia. His hearing was so sensitive, that he could hear a whispered conversation in Cair Paravel above the roar of the waterfall.  You can read about Moonwood in the book, 'The Last Battle'.

This term we are collaboratively working with Year 4 on the topic of Castles. Both year groups shall be working to create similar projects throughout the term. This topic will have both History and Geography aspects throughout.

Specifically, in English, we shall be using several different books to base our learning off of. A couple of these include: Castles by Colin Thompson and Rumblestar by Abi Elphinstone. Some of the things included are: designing their own castle, writing a character description and writing a story of an adventure around different castles. Additionally, the children will be creating leaflets about Castles.

In Art, we will link to our topic Castles, creating our own drawings of real-life castles and abstract ones from the children’s own creations.

In Maths, we have now finished recapping the Multiplication and Division knowledge we have missed due to lockdown. Now, we will continue learning about Multiplication and Division, exploring new methods to complete a range of problems and questions. As well this, we will be continuing to work on those basic skills that children may have forgotten or not used whilst at home. Additionally, the children will work on fractions once a week.

In Science, we will be focusing on the topic Forces. We may link to the pull and push of a drawbridge or those that move around in castles.

In Computing, your child will continue to learn all about multimedia, different ways to use different types of media appropriately. Including how to make a poster online or a presentation. As well, I will still be highlighting the importance of E-Safety.

Our PSHE this term is Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds. The children will learn all about what is healthy for them and their bodies.
